Talk about having too much time on your hands!
Thad Starr of Pleasant Hill, Oregon, has just won the Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, California.
And, according to the champion, his prize-winning pumpkin really started to get big in August.
That’s when the pumpkin started to put on about 30 pounds a day before making it to the competition.
Was Kirstie Alley on the same diet?
So, what was the final weight for the pumpkin?
It came in at a record 1,528 pounds!
Oh, and Starr also won the prize last year when his pumpkin came in just four pounds lighter and also set a record.
The vegetable fruit this year was so large it had to be brought in on a trailer. The pumpkin measured in with a 15 foot circumference.
So just how does Starr grow such huge pumpkins?
He says, “We really pamper them.”
Riiiiiight.
On a good note, though, Starr won six dollars for each pound, so he left with over $9,000.
Wonder how many pumpkin pies they can make from that one pumpkin?
