Phew! Now that that’s covered, the marriage can actually be legal!
There is an actual law dating back to the 18th century that required William to ask his grandmother’s consent before he could be officially married — or else it just wouldn’t have counted! Becaus under the Royal Marriages Act 1772, all descendants of George II must obtain the sovereign’s agreement before they wed! Otherwise it doesn’t mean anything!
Here’s what the beautiful declaration of consent says:
Under the Great Seal of the Realm, she signed an elaborate notice of approval which proclaimed, in transcribed calligraphy, consent to the union of ‘Our Most Dearly Beloved Grandson Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales, K.G. and Our Trusty and Well-beloved Catherine Elizabeth Middleton’.
We would be over the moon if the Queen straight up called us “Trusty,” LOLz!
We kid! This is fantastic news, even if it feels like a bit of an unnecessary step nowadays!
That’s another thing off your checklist, Will and Kate! What’s left before the big day??
PS! Be sure to watch Perez as he hosts “Will + Kate Forever,” the only royal wedding special worth seeing, airing Friday, April 29th at 7pm/6c on Wedding Central and also at 9pm/8c on WE tv.
