Ever since Zoe Saldana was seen in the trailer for Nina, critics have been slamming the actress for her altered appearance playing Nina Simone.
The Guardians of the Galaxy star has been getting major heat for darkening her skin and donning a nose prosthetic while portraying the late singer in the upcoming biopic, even from the estate of Nina’s verified Twitter account.
But not everyone is up in arms over Saldana’s altered look — in fact, Queen Latifah and Paula Patton are coming to the actress’ defense!

At the premiere of The Perfect Match on Monday, Latifah said she was “looking forward to” the film after being asked what she thought about the controversy, saying:

“I think Zoe Saldana’s a great actress. So I am looking forward to it├óΓé¼┬ª She is of African descent, I don’t see why she shouldn’t play the role. I just want to see it.”

Patton echoed Latifah’s sentiments, urging people to wait until they see the film before they start “judging” Zoe’s performance. She said:

“Clearly, someone thought she was perfect for it. She’s an amazing actress, she’s beautiful, and you haven’t even given her a chance and you haven’t seen it yet. So I wouldn’t want to put that kind of judgement on anything that I haven’t seen, first and foremost, but most importantly imagine being in her shoes and enduring that. It’s not cool, and it’s not right… This was a magnificent woman. Zoe is absolutely an incredible actress, so give her a shot and try to enjoy and stop judging.”
