Can you even remember a time when “Netflix and chill” wasn’t a thing? Yeah, we can’t either.
The streaming giant, along with other services like Hulu and Amazon, has not only changed the way we enjoy content but has practically given birth to another golden age of TV that we can’t get enough of.

One of the best by-products of Netflix’s massive success was the reboot of Queer Eye For The Straight Guy. Now aptly referred to as just Queer Eye, the feel-good reality TV show starring Karamo Brown, Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness, Tan France and Bobby Berk is diverse, compelling, and arguably one of the best shows to come back in the last few years.
So color us surprised to hear that the new Fab 5 are reportedly make less than $10K an episode!
But how can this be?
We’ve all seen the lavish makeover make-better transformations of the heroes each week including everything from where they live, to their wardrobe, workspace and sometimes the entire family’s day-to-day routines. We know those shopping hauls ain’t cheap, so the show must have a pretty decent budget right?
So why are these guys making a mere $7,500 per episode making us cry cathartic tears of joy?
The latest issue of Variety explores the salaries of TV’s top stars and digs deeper into new California state laws that aim to redress wage disparity. The new changes are forcing studios to change their approach in determining what to offer an actor for a project based on his or her pay history.
According to Grace Wu, EVP of Casting for NBC, actors are given offers based on “what casting directors and producers consider their value to the project” — something she feels greatly helps women and people of color in the industry today.
But how does that help us rationalize why a straight, white male like John Goodman makes $350K per episode of The Conners? Or how Millie Bobby Brown will make $350K per episode of Stranger Things in Season 3? We know Goodman’s career speaks for itself, but all these gaps are wild!
