Rachel Lindsay Slams ABC's Pick For The Next 'Bachelor'!

Rachel Lindsay is speaking out about Peter Weber‘s Bachelor casting.

ICYMI on Tuesday night, ABC announced the 28-year-old as the next franchise lead during the season six finale and reunion special of Bachelor in Paradise.

The former Bachelorette says she’s disappointed the network chose to pass on Mike Johnson, who was an early fan favorite and would’ve made history as the show’s first African-American male lead.

The reality TV star shared her frustrations with Entertainment Tonight on the same night of the big Bach announcement. She began:

“I think Peter seems like a very nice guy. He seems lovely. This is absolutely nothing against him, but how many Peters have we seen before? What season are we on? 24. So, we’ve seen 24 Peters. I’m bored. And it’s nothing personal against him.”

Blatantly calling someone boring actually does sound personal, but we digress.

The newlywed, who served as Bachelor Nation’s first Black female lead back in 2017, told the outlet she was hopeful Johnson would follow in her footsteps someday. She continued:

“I want to be hopeful, but when you have a contestant like Mike Johnson, who seems to check all the boxes, how is he not the Bachelor? I don’t understand. I’m sure they have some reason for not picking him, and I’m going to trust in that, but at the same time, the system isn’t working in giving us a Bachelor who is a person of color. So we need to change the system. Something has to be done. Break the rules, step outside the box, give the people what they want!”

Okay. To be fair, we have to point out Weber is actually half-Cuban, though, he doesn’t exactly pass the “person of color” eye test. Which, is a little problematic in itself.

Still, Lindsay argued the lack of minority representation in the Bachelor world. The former attorney added that by picking Peter, it’s likely that the next Bachelorette will be a safer (read: whiter) individual, too.

“The Bachelor is in charge of saying what they’re interested in and what they’re not. Some people don’t know that — they do ask you. You’ve seen some of the girls that Peter’s dated. It came out before, his girlfriend was in the news from the past, before Hannah. So, you know what his type is at this point. And so, I expect girls to look more like Hannah than they do like me or someone else of color.”

Fair point!

Despite her criticisms, the 34-year-old did have a few nice things to say about good old’ pilot Pete:

“What I will say [to him] is, ignore the noise, including the noise that I’m giving. He’s going to be a fantastic Bachelor. People just need to get over the fact that we thought something was going to happen that didn’t happen. But once he ignores all that, just be yourself, be open to love, and you can’t lose.”

Well, for the record, it sounds like Johnson may have already moved on and found his own happy ending!

As we reported, the 31-year-old Air Force veteran recently connected with Demi Lovato, who had a crush on the guy ever since he graced our TV screens during Hannah Brown‘s season. And, according to an insider who spoke to E! News about the pair recently, things are reportedly moving along quite well for the new couple!

So, all’s well that ends well. Right?
