Raven-Symoné Clears Up Her Controversial Comments About Not Being African American

Inneresting.
By now you’ve definitely heard about Raven-Symon├â┬⌐‘s controversial Where Are They Now? interview with Oprah.
In the special, Raven finally opened up about her relationship with AzMarie Livingston and her distaste for labels.
However, while abolishing said labels, she also made a few statements about not being African American that were bound to be taken the wrong way…
And they were.
But as never being one to back down, the 28-year-old ex-Disney star cleared the air about her misquoted claims, saying:

“I never said I wasn’t black, I want to make that very clear. I said, ‘I am not African American.’ I never expected my personal beliefs and comments to spark such emotion in people. I think it is only positive when we can openly discuss race and being labeled in America.
I don’t know where my roots go to. I don’t know how far back they go…I don’t know what country in Africa I’m from, but I do know that my roots are in Louisiana. I’m an American. And that’s a colorless person.”

No one can say she doesn’t stand by her word!

But we totally get what Raven meant. Independently of being black, she is an American.
And as an American, she happens to be dating a woman.
Just don’t call her gay.
