Woman Killed & Eaten By Neighbor's Pet Pigs On Christmas Day

75-Year-Old Woman Was Killed & Eaten By Neighbor's Pet Pigs On Christmas Day

This is downright terrifying…

An Ohio woman lost her life during the holiday season — to two of her neighbor’s pet pigs, according to multiple local reports. Pataskala Police received a call from Rebecca Westergaard Rigney‘s family on December 25 when the 75-year-old failed to show up to their Christmas festivities. They requested a welfare check, and when responding officers turned up to the elderly woman’s residence around 3 p.m. Christmas Day, they were shocked at what they found.

In a police report, it was revealed Rebecca was found deceased on her porch with “injuries to her legs”. It wasn’t until they found a large pig inside the victim’s home did they start to piece together what had happened. Per multiple outlets, Pataskala law enforcement say the elderly woman was attacked and partially eaten by two pigs “roaming” around her property. Horrifying!

The farm animals belong to Rebecca’s neighbor, who was also reported to have at least two other pigs on their property. According to WBNS, Licking County Coroner’s Office ruled the woman’s death as accidental, and reported she died from “bleeding out due to extensive superficial injuries by livestock animals”. The office also noted she had prior health conditions.

Police have reportedly told the owner of the pigs that the animals will be “quarantined until further notice”, but the whole situation is still under investigation. Pataskala Police Chief Bruce Brooks said it’s a “horrible, horrible situation”, according to The Dispatch. And they’re still not sure what the correct plan of action is:

“If it was a pit bull or a Rottweiler, or name any of the other 15 dogs that are deemed semi-aggressive, then we would know the answer right away. But being farm animals, it’s just not something we’ve ever dealt with here.”

Another resident of the neighborhood, David Mullings, told WBNS he was shocked to hear that PIGS were the culprit:

“It was pretty crazy, wild because there’s not just wild pigs roaming. I’ve never seen pigs except for the market down the street so … very confusing. This is a very quiet neighborhood. Nothing happens in this neighborhood … I was shocked just to hear that two pigs had possibly killed a woman. It was a little shocking.”

Definitely a wild situation — and so heartbreaking for Rebecca’s family! You can never be too careful when it comes to animals of any kind…
