The power of the internet!
Well, we mean, always use caution – for every one of these stories there’s a thousand of them that can give incorrect information and needlessly worry people out there, or worse give people a false sense of security when they really need to get checked out!
A user on Reddit named Taylor Tyree had his life saved, though, while browsing the website and catching another user’s graphic post about testicular cancer!
The post included a photo of having a testicle removed and a description of the poster’s symptoms – and that’s when Taylor realized he ‘had something similar’ happening.
An ultrasound, CAT scan, and X-ray revealed he had a large cancerous mass in his left testicle. It had to be removed IMMEDIATELY.
He’s just 21!
Here’s what he said:
‘I went to the comments and was reading through and he was talking about symptoms and what not… it was like, wait, I have something similar to this.’
He’s now returning the favor online – he too is posting pics of himself post-surgery and has been giving advice to others about getting checked and knowing the symptoms!
He continued:
‘I met a lot of uniballers. I do have a message; I would say I don’t do sports, so never had to have a physical, make sure you get checked out and do an exam, because you never know what will happen.’
Luckily, testicular cancer is one of the more treatable versions. Over 95% of people who catch it early can be completely cured.
Wanna know the crazy part?
This isn’t the first time this has happened on Reddit. A user a while back took a pregnancy test as a joke and posted the positive results online. That’s when other users urged him to get checked for testicular cancer!
