Wow! Guess they’re really banking on the nostalgia factor here!
Despite only just officially retiring from Live! back in November, Regis Philbin was apparently such a hit when he reunited with his former co-host Kathie Lee Gifford while guest-hosting the fourth hour of The Today Show that he’s now being courted as the frontrunner to permanently replace Hoda Kotb when SHE replaces Ann Curry!
Phew! Did ya get all that?! LOLz!
According to a source on the show:
“[Executives at NBC] absolutely love Regis, and want to formally sign him to become a special contributor to Today and work with the network on entertainment specials. If Hoda is chosen to become Matt Lauer‘s co-anchor, Regis would be the natural choice to replace her. Kathie Lee and Regis have a long history together from their days of working together on their own show, Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee. The two have remained very good friends in the years since both left the show.”

And although it’s not EXACTLY retirement, it sounds like it would be a lighter workload for him…especially because of his already built-in relationship with the co-host! We all saw how seamlessly those two got back into the swing of things last week!
Not to mention the kind of RATINGS this would pull!
Sounds like a sure-fire – and pretty RAD – hit!
