Rick Perry wants to treat the public university system in Texas like a business.
You know, rank professors on how profitable they are to the school, give out bonuses based on anonymous student evaluations. Treat students like “customers.” That kind of thing.
Doesn’t sound great, right? Especially when tuition inflation is basically out of control. So why does he want to do things like this? Why the deep seeded hostility for good teachers that could get ruined by obnoxious students who decided to slack in class and do evaluations based on their earned grades?
Probably because he wasn’t the best student either. Or a very good student. Actually, he just got a bunch of C’s and D’s.
A source in Texas passed Perry’s transcripts from his years at Texas A&M University. The future politician did not distinguish himself much in the classroom. While he later became a student leader, he had to get out of academic probation to do so. He rarely earned anything above a C in his courses — earning a C in U.S. History, a D in Shakespeare, and a D in the principles of economics. Perry got a C in gym.
Perry also did poorly on classes within his animal science major. In fall semester 1970, he received a D in veterinary anatomy, a F in a second course on organic chemistry and a C in animal breeding. He did get an A in world military systems and ├óΓé¼┼ôImprov. of Learning├óΓé¼┬¥ — his only two As while at A&M.
But wait, things were just tough, right?
“A&M wasn’t exactly Harvard on the Brazos River. This was not the brightest guy around. We always kind of laughed. He was always kind of a joke.”
Oh, well, regardless of that, that’s not exactly the kind of guy we should want in charge of a nation’s economy anyway.
Looks like C is for get a Clue and D is for Drop out of this race!
