This is great news!
We just wish it was happening a bit sooner!
The twin touring circus companies — Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus — have made a MAJOR announcement on Thursday about the future of their circuses and one of the main pieces of information that they let loose concerned the elephants in the show.
And apparently the company will be phasing out the magnificent creatures from BOTH shows!
Feld Entertainment announced that the elephant will slowly be phased out of their self proclaimed Greatest Show On Earth and by 2018 the elephants will be gone from the circus life completely!

Here is what the CEO of the touring circus companies Kenneth Feld said:
“No other institution has done or is doing more to save this species from extinction, and that is something of which I and my family are extremely proud. This decision was not easy, but it is in the best interest of our company, our elephants and our customers.”
We’re definitely happy that elephants will no longer be a part of a show for children that has been accused for years of mistreating the magnificent animals… and in 2011 the circus was fined by the USDA a whopping $270,000 for violating the Animal Welfare Act.
Feld for his part has always denied the mistreatment of the animals but did admit on Thursday that “a lot of people aren’t comfortable with us touring with our elephants.”
However, we’re not sure if any protesting of the circuses will stop here since there are a lot of OTHER animals in the circus act. Who knows how they’re being treated too?
But as for the elephants they’ll be heading to a 200-acre Elephant Conservation in Florida where they’ll be able to enjoy the sunshine and weather down there without having to worry about any more problems.
Well, at least they’ll be able to relax in 2018 when they’re phased out even if they have to wait a little bit.
