The grande dame of New York society, Brooke Astor, has passed away.

The legendary socialite was 105 when she died of pneumonia in New York on Monday. 105! And what a very full life she lived.

Known more for her philanthropic ways than just what parties she attended, Mrs. Astor gave away hundreds of millions of dollars to worthwhile causes.

Her life was marred in the last few years by elder abuse allegations leveled against her son, Anthony Marshall.

Though she has passed, Brooke Astor’s legacy will live on. She is an example of what other society women should strive to be like.
