Actor Karl Malden has passed away, the Academy and Emmy award winner’s family has announced.

His best known TV role was Lt. Mike Stone on the 1970s crime drama The Streets of San Francisco.

Karl was featured in classic films such as A Streetcar Named Desire, On the Waterfront and One-Eyed Jacks, with Marlon Brando, and also Patton.

Like Michael Jackson, Malden was born in Gary, Indiana.

Karl lived to be 97 years young.
