Well, this is a very unfortunate twist.
Just days after Vanessa Morgan’s pregnancy announcement, the Chicago Tribune confirmed that her husband, Michael Kopech, has filed for divorce!
The couple was married back in early January 2020, so the divorce filing comes after just five months of marriage — an it looks like about a month into the pregnancy?

According to the Tribune, the filing was made on June 19th in Morris County, Texas, where Michael grew up. The baseball player had previously announced he would be opting out of the 2020 MLB season for “personal reasons.”
The news will probably come as a surprise to fans, not only due to the recent pregnancy announcement but because the Riverdale star’s social media gave no indication of a split, and Kopech still appears on her Instagram — most recently in a loving post in April that read:
“Happy Quarantine Birthday Boo.”
Was he even really still her boo at that point??
It’s worth noting the actress’ pregnancy announcement didn’t mention the baby’s father at all…
“Exciting news… I am overjoyed to be welcoming my baby boy into the world this January ?. This little guy has already brought me so much happiness and a feeling of such a greater purpose. I cannot wait to meet you!! On a personal note, I have had the blessing of growing up in the public eye having started my acting career at age 6. In retrospect, it’s telling that Kopech wasn’t mentioned in the post, nor does he appear in any of the photos at 28-year-old’s gender reveal party. The actress also shared a snap of her positive pregnancy tests taken in Texas on May 20, almost exactly a month before the athlete filed for divorce.

Due to the suspicious timing of the news breaking, we can’t help but wonder what went down here. A rep for Morgan confirmed to the Tribune that Kopech is indeed the father, so that may put to rest questions of paternity. Maybe they simply had different expectations about raising children?
Whatever the case may be, it’s certainly sad news. But based on Morgan’s posts, this baby is going to be absolutely showered with love, and that’s what matters the most.
