Old Hollywood is speaking up and Robert De Niro is the latest to speak out about the potential actors’ strike due to their negotiations of new contracts.
While at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic, where he won the Crystal Globe for his contribution to cinema, the actor spoke about his concerns.
De Niro said, “I do not think it is a good time to be striking,” adding that in the years to come the issues “could be resolved.”
He also added that the general climate didn’t seem right for the action.
Saying, “All the trade unions are affected by the strike. With the economy as it is at this time, it does not seem to be a great idea.”
The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) had come up with a three-year deal originally but the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) had said the deal didn’t look promising.
Negotiations are still ongoing but SAG is expected to respond to a new offer this Monday.
We’re on SAG’s side. The big media moguls need to step up to the plate – especially when it comes to the issue of payment for DVD residuals (or lack thereof)!
