Rosanna Pansino was hospitalized after suffering a “major internal infection.”
On Tuesday on Twitter, the YouTube star — known for her weekly Nerdy Nummies videos which teach viewers how to make various nerd-themed treats — revealed the diagnosis, which doctors pin-pointed after performing various tests.

Once they were able to isolate the issue, medical professionals began treatment — including a spinal tap (also known as a lumbar puncture) where a needle is inserted between two lumbar bones to remove a sample of cerebrospinal fluid.
The social media personality wrote:
“Medical update!… Went to Urgent Care with a crazy fever and intense pain. They said I needed to go to the ER immediately. Did a bunch of tests (including this CT scan) and found I had a major internal infection. We began treatment right away… They also performed a Spinal Tap (draining spinal fluid) as I had all the symptoms of life-threatening issues. Thanks to the amazing @CedarsSinai staff for taking care of me. Im on bedrest all week to recover and allow the internal swelling to go down”
Additionally, the Nerdy Nummies Cookbook author revealed her illness was triggered by a “rare aggressive bacteria” that could have been lurking on anything she’d touched, adding:
“Hard to pinpoint exactly where since I was on so many sets this week… Doctor said it can happen to anyone but it’s not common.”
Previously, over the weekend, Pansino revealed she “had a fever of 101.4,” and planned to go “to urgent care… since [her situation] hasn’t gotten any better.”
Despite her health issues, Rosanna released a new video on Wednesday, of her and friend, iJustine.
According to Mayo Clinic, a lumbar puncture can help diagnose serious infections, such as meningitis; other disorders of the central nervous system, such as Guillain-Barre syndrome and multiple sclerosis; or cancers of the brain or spinal cord.
Doctors can also use spinal taps to inject anesthetic medications or chemotherapy drugs into the cerebrospinal fluid.
Though they are generally considered safe, lumbar punctures could lead to headaches (due to a leak of fluid into nearby tissues), back discomfort/pain, bleeding, and brainstem herniation — the shifting of brain tissue from one space in the brain to another through various folds and openings.
Pansino’s eponymous channel has 11.2 million subscribers, and her videos have been viewed more than 2.7 billion times.
The starlet, who has around 4.3 million Instagram followers, previously appeared on YouTube’s murder-mystery reality web series Escape the Night.
