First of all, Congrats on this milestone!
Rosie O’Donnell suffered a heart attack back in 2012, and since then, she’s been on a quest to get healthy!
So, in July 2013, Miz O’Donnell underwent vertical gastric sleeve surgery, which she revealed at the American Heart Association-sponsored Go Red luncheon on Friday!
This procedure reduced her stomach by 80 percent, so now it├óΓé¼Γäós like the size of a banana, but the shape of a sleeve! Must be how they got the name! Though, Banana Sleeve wouldn’t have been a bad option either! Ha!
Rosie revealed that since the surgery, she’s lost 40lbs, putting her under 200lbs at 190lbs! AH-Mayzing! There was one simple reason for the lifestyle change, Rosie said:
“I did it to save my life.”
After her heart attack, the 51-year-old comedian said that getting under 200lbs was her goal, which she partially accomplished by taking walks with her wife Michelle Rounds, and cutting down on things like carbs and red meat.
That wasn’t quite enough though, and Rosie opted for surgery because of other issues like high blood pressure and cholesterol. Cindi Berger, Rosie’s spokesperson, explained the situation, saying:
“She tried to lose weight on her own but it wasn’t working. It was a life saving surgery. But it’s only a tool, not a cure.”
Hey, sometimes you need a little extra assistance!
Health is nothing to mess around with, so we’re just glad that Rosie was proactive so she can be a doting momma and wife for many, many more years!
