Prince Charles is taking over Thomas Markle‘s royal wedding duties!
Yup, on Friday, Kensington Palace issued a statement revealing that Meghan Markle has asked her soon to be father-in-law to walk her down the aisle on May 19. WOW.

As you surely know, Miz Markle was originally supposed to be escorted by her reclusive father. However, after a scandal involving the paparazzi and an urgent health scare, the Hollywood cinematographer announced that he was unable to attend the royal wedding.
While Mr. Markle encouraged Meghan to hand mother Doria Ragland his wedding duties, it appears that Princess Diana‘s ex husband has stepped up to take on the role. The palace issued the following on the update:
“Ms. Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George’s Chapel on her Wedding Day. The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way.”

The show must go on, right?? Still, it sounds like the Suits star is truly touched by Charles’ willingness to participate. A royal insider spilled to People:
“It was Meghan’s wish and she is grateful for the Prince of Wales to be doing it.”

It’s said that, during the earlier part of the procession, Meghan will be escorted by just her bridesmaids and page boys (which includes Prince George and Princess Charlotte). Once the American actress reaches the Quire, she’ll be greeted by Prince Charles and brought to royal bridegroom Prince Harry.
We honestly think it’s wonderful that the 69-year-old Prince of Wales is doing this for Meghan, especially since this isn’t his first royal wedding! Squee!!
