Nothing wrong with standing up for what you believe in.
This morning, Russell Simmons was just one of the many protesters facing jail time in New York as Mayor Bloomberg had ordered a “clean up” of the group’s base in Zuccotti Park yesterday and police were prepared to bring people in.
Thousands of the 99% rallied today to continue their fight against corporate greed despite the Mayor’s order, including the rap mogul, who sent out several messages to Bloomberg over Twitter, urging him to reconsider his plans “to avoid confrontation.” He offered to pay for the clean up himself if it meant keeping people unharmed and out of jail. If he didn’t reconsider, Russell pledged that he would be jailed right alongside the others in Zuccotti Park.
Thankfully, Bloomberg called the whole thing off and the protesters were allowed to stay. No one was harmed, no one in jail.
So, maybe Russell got through to him.
