Baby Safety Tips: Hidden Hazards

Being a parent is filled with worries!

But before you start fretting over whether your baby’s going to grow up and be a doctor or a really rich doctor you need to make sure they make it past the terrible twos!

Some of the biggest threats to your baby’s safety lurk in unexpected places.

Here’s are some hidden house hold hazards:

Cords — Reports surfaced earlier this year about the accidental strangulation of seven babies (and three close calls) by nursery monitor cords since 2002.

Crib Bumpers — It├óΓé¼Γäós been all over the news recently. The leading cause of death in babies under 1 year old is suffocation and strangulation and bumpers may play a big role in that. It is much safer to have your baby hit the bars of the crib than have them suffocate on their bumpers, pillows and blankets!

Choking Hazards — elertical outlet protectors, balloons, and rubber doorstop tips, and Lithium ├óΓé¼┼ôbutton├óΓé¼┬¥ batteries.

Glass Fireplace Shields — Since 1999, more than 2,000 children younger than 6 have suffered burns from glass enclosures on gas fireplaces. Ouch!

Always remember to check for recalls!! When a product is recalled a S.W. A.T. team isn’t going burst into your home to get rid of it. You can sign up to receive recall notices by email HERE!
