Scarlett Johansson is taking her avengers from the big screen to a big stage.
The actress premiered as frustrated sex pot, Maggie, in the revival of Tennessee Williams’ Cat On A Hot Tin Roof last night.
The role was also played in the past by such greats as Elizabeth Taylor, Jessica Lange, and Ashley Judd..but ScarJo wanted to give a fresh spin to the classic character.
She told sources:
“I think her sexuality is often overplayed and over-appreciated. It’s such an unimportant part of this story. I mean, it comes with the circumstance, of course, and the settling and the words├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥that’s already there. There’s no need to drape yourself all over the stage and roll around in a satin sheet.”
Hmm.. so that explains the toned down wardrobe in last night’s performance. Given the sexual exploitation she has endured lately, we totally understand why she would want to take the classy approach.
The actress’ portrayal has yet to be reviewed, but was her understated version of Maggie enough to spend another night with Tony?!!
