Bubble, bubble, toil and TROUBLE!
Scarlett Johansson‘s humanitarian efforts are in some deep fizz with the group Oxfam International…
But why, you ask?!
After being an Oxfam ambassador for upwards to eight years, the Don Jon actress is being criticized for supporting SodaStream, an Israeli company that operates in the West Bank.
Apparently, the starlet and Oxfam have a “fundamental difference of opinion” in regards to boycotts and sanctions for companies that produce their goods in that part of the world—which has forced the movie star to step down from her position.
In a statement following Scarjo’s exit announcement, the group revealed:
“While Oxfam respects the independence of our ambassadors, Ms. Johansson’s role promoting the company SodaStream is incompatible with her role as an Oxfam Global Ambassador. Oxfam believes that businesses, such as SodaStream, that operate in settlements further the ongoing poverty and denial of rights of the Palestinian communities that we work to support. Oxfam is opposed to all trade from Israeli settlements, which are illegal under international law. Ms. Johansson has worked with Oxfam since 2005 and in 2007 became a Global Ambassador, helping to highlight the impact of natural disasters and raise funds to save lives and fight poverty.”
Miz Johansson has always defended her work with SodaStream as their global ambassador, because of the important “economic cooperation and social interaction between a democratic Israel and Palestine.”
Hopefully all this controversy fizzles out! Ha!
Politics aside, we can’t wait to see Scarlett sucking on some bubbly drinks when her SodaStream commercial airs during the Super Bowl on Sunday!
Hopefully the entire ad wasn’t actually banned like the rumors have been saying!
