School May Expel First Grader For Accidentally Bringing Toy Gun To Class EVEN THOUGH He Did The Right Thing With It!

Such a tough situation!
On June 4th a first grader named Darin Simak was suspended and faces expulsion from Martin Elementary School in New Kensington, Pennsylvania after he discovered he had accidentally brought a toy gun to school in his backpack!
Once he realized his mistake however he immediately told his teacher. However, Darin wasn’t the one who packed the toy gun in his backpack — that was actually his mother’s fault! She explained that she had missed the toy gun while packing his bag, and thus it really was Darin’s fault at all!
Darin, upon learning of the fake gun, showed his teacher the toy and said, “I├óΓé¼Γäóm not supposed to have this.”
The teacher brought the matter to the attention of the principal who subsequently suspended Darin. The first grader was then set to have a meeting with his parents and the school district’s superintendent sometime later in the week.
And at least the father is upset his child even has to face such a thing!
Here’s what he said:

“He took it straight to the teacher and said that he wasn’t allowed to have it… He did the right thing, and we’re trying to teach him the right way, and now they’re teaching him the wrong way.”

But here’s the part that we don’t understand at all!
The parents then ignored the school’s suspension and sent their son to school the next day anyway!
The boy was immediately given an in school suspension, and was soon picked up by his father.
Why would you place your son in that position? Even if you disagree with the school’s ruling?
We definitely think a large part of the blame falls on the parents’ shoulders in this situation. The school obviously is taking an extremely hard line with their punishment, but the parents have to be more aware of what their first grade son is taking to school, and also what the rules are regarding suspension (whether or not they agree with them).
We think they would have an easier time of this if they worked with the school on this touchy situation rather than trying to fight with the administrators. There is some middle ground to be found here.
A middle ground that doesn’t include this child getting expelled from school!
