Scientists Developing Malaria Vaccine That Could Eliminate The Disease


Researchers in the United Kingdom believe they have pinpointed the “Achilles’ Heel” of malaria, a mosquito born disease that kills one child in Africa every 45 seconds.
Since the disease is spread by a parasite that invades human red blood cells, scientists believe they can create a vaccine to block the infection by focusing on a red blood cell receptor essential for malaria to develop.
Although there is no vaccine yet, experts are calling the discovery a “breakthrough” that has the potential to wipe malaria off of the planet.
