Last month, we heard that 60 Minutes‘ Scott Pelley was the top candidate to take over Katie Couric’s CBS Evening News anchor position after her exit.
It seemed very clear that the position was Pelley’s, and sure enough, the official announcement came today that he’ll take over Katie’s position when she leaves the show.
Here’s what he had to say about the new opportunity:
“The opportunity to lead the organization as managing editor of the evening news is something you aspire to, something you never believe you could actually achieve.”
And here’s what CBS News chairman/60 Minutes executive producer Jeff Fager had to say about it:
“There’s a great tradition here and I think Scott’s a terrific symbol of that tradition. [He’s] as good a reporter as has ever worked at this network.”
And here’s what Katie Couric has said about Pelley:
“[Pelley] is a great reporter and a real gentleman, who cares deeply about the news. I know he’ll put his own unique imprimatur on the broadcast and will do a great job carrying on the tradition of the CBS Evening News.”
Such nice words from Katie to her successor.
Good luck, Scott! We’ll def give you a watch!
What do U think about Scott Pelley as a replacement for Katie Couric? Will he be able to fill her shoes?
