Sean Lowe is opening up about how difficult his 8-year-old son Isaiah‘s Type 1 diabetes diagnosis has been for the whole family.
As his wife Catherine Giudici opened up about earlier this week, the little boy was recently rushed to the hospital after his doctor noticed some concerning signs during a routine checkup, which lead to his diagnosis. It’s been a massive change for the whole family, and on Instagram on Thursday, The Bachelor star shared a new video reflecting on the challenges of the hospital stay and adjusting to their new normal.

Addressing one of the hardest aspects of the whole ordeal, Sean explained:
“So we were there Tuesday through Friday and it was a lot. It was hard because as far as we knew and Isaiah knew, he was a healthy boy. He didn’t really show any symptoms outside of frequent urination. And the next thing he knows, he’s getting blood tests and shots every two hours, which of course he hates as an 8-year-old.”
Oof. Yeah, that would be really hard for a kid to wrap his head around!
And for the reality star, watching his young boy put through so much pain was just as difficult:
“As a parent, it was incredibly difficult to watch him basically scream for help. You know, ‘Please don’t do it, I don’t want it.’ We’re trying to tell him, ‘Hey, buddy, you have to. It’s good for you. It’s medicine.’ Of course, 8-year-old’s don’t fully understand that.”
Oh, gosh. That must’ve been so gut-wrenching for the parents to witness.
Thankfully, the family is “getting through it” — but it has been a lot to process. Isaiah is still struggling to adjust to taking five shots a day and not being able to live his life as freely as he once did when it comes to food:
“The hardest part, outside of that, is just kind of the acknowledgement that his freedom to snack as he pleases or go to a friend’s house and have lunch, like, he can’t do that anymore. We have to stay on top of his carbs and insulin and all that stuff. But what we keep being told over and over again is it will become normal. It’s the new normal, and he’s doing great. Hates the shots, but as soon as he gets the shot, he’s back to his old tricks.”
Aw, we will be thinking positive thoughts for the family! Hopefully, it gets easier and easier as they all figure this out!
