Is Selena Gomez’s New Music About The Weeknd? See The Evidence HERE!

Selena Gomez new music about The Weeknd

Selena Gomez is giving fans everything they want during quarantine… a juicy trail of breadcrumbs to follow!

The pop star released the deluxe version of her album Rare on Thursday, which featured three new tracks: Boyfriend, She, and Souvenir. That last song is what’s causing a lot of conversation among Selenators.

While some of the biggest bops from Rare were pretty obviously about Sel’s toxic relationship with Justin Bieber, fans think Souvenir is about another famous ex — Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd!

Here’s the evidence that’s been gathered so far. The former Disney diva starts the song off recalling a memory with a past lover:

“New York back in August, 10th floor balcony/Smoke is floating over Jane and Greenwich street”

Fans were quick to make the connection between the lyric and some of the pop power couple’s dates back in 2017. They were frequently spotted hanging out in Manhattan, and at the time there were even rumors that they’d moved into a Greenwich Village apartment together while the actress filmed Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day In New York

The 27-year-old name dropped another location that fans connected to the After Hours singer: “Sunset Tower lobby,” otherwise known as the uber celebrity-centric hotel in Los Angeles where the former flames were spotted leaving together in July 2017.

Now here’s a MAJOR clue: Selly sings about “Calling your name, the only language I speak” — which seems like a pretty clear reference to The Weeknd’s song Call Out My Name. Fans have long speculated that that song is about Gomez, especially considering the lyric:

I almost cut a piece of myself for your life”

Remember, Abel was there for Sel during her recovery from kidney surgery — he even scheduled his tour around her procedure!

On the other hand, another contingent of fans believe the song is actually about another rumored ex, Niall Horan. After all, his eyes are blue (unlike the Canadian crooner, whose brown eyes don’t fit the “Egyptian blue” description) and the song mentions the year 1993, which is the 1D star’s birth year.

Buuuuuut… we’re inclined to think that “Bordeaux from 1993” probably means a literal bottle of wine, rather than a veiled hint towards the Irishman!

Not to mention, the Souvenir lyric “Kissed in every corner” just feels like it suits the PDA-heavy romance between Selena and Abel!

On top of all that, this isn’t even the first time the Rare singer has referenced her ex in recent memory. In late March, Gomez posted a list of her favorite pieces of pop culture getting her through the coronavirus quarantine. Included on the list was The Weeknd’s song Snowchild, as well as the movie Uncut Gems, featuring the film debut of none other than… Abel Tesfayes!
