Even Shawn Mendes gets starstruck.
According to the In My Blood singer, he had QUITE the awkward encounter with Queen Elizabeth II at her 92nd birthday celebration. As you likely know, the Canadian-born crooner performed at the British Monarch’s birthday bash, along with Kylie Minogue, Sting, Sir Tom Jones, etc.

Apparently, while backstage at the event, Mendes was trapped in 10 minutes of silence alongside the Queen. In case you didn’t know, per royal protocol, you are NOT to address the monarch unless she speaks to you first. And, since Prince William‘s grandmother took her time in addressing the performers, Shawn was left standing in “awkward” silence.
However his biggest regret from the evening wasn’t his encounter with the Queen, rather, the 19-year-old hitmaker is saddened that he chickened out before getting to meet Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
