So great to hear that you were able to use comedy as a defense against ignorance, Sherri!
While in school, The View’s Sherri Shepherd was bullied by awful kids who made racist comments against her, and she used her comedic abilities as a defense mechanism.
Here’s Shepherd on racism she dealt with as a child:
├óΓé¼┼ôMy dad worked two jobs and moved us to the suburbs, and just being a black person, I went through a lot of racism and being called names and being bullied every single day. And it was hard. I didn├óΓé¼Γäót have any friends.”

“They said, ‘You make people laugh.’ I would make people who bullied me laugh, so that’s my defense mechanism.”
Truly inspirational to hear.
It takes an intelligent, strong, mature person to fight back with words or humor instead of physical violence.
