A seemingly harmless prank went horribly wrong last week when a 6-year-old boy was hit and killed by his bus in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Brendan Houston was getting off his school bus after a long day of classes last Thursday when he suddenly realized his shoelaces had been tied together and reached down to untie them.
Unfortunately, the driver Debra Stevens was not able to see him and struck the young boy as she began to pull away.
Brendan was rushed to the local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Local authorities tested Debra to see is she was intoxicated during the accident, but toxicology tests did not suggest she was under the influence.
A roadside memorial has been set up in Shreveport where family and friends have been able to leave flowers and stuffed animals in Brendan’s honor.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
We wonder who tied them together, and whether or not something is going to be done to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
