So You Think You Can Dance Canada Has Been Cancelled!

Hopefully the US version doesn’t suffer the same fate…

Despite a solid fourth season, we’ve just learned that Canada’s version of So You Think You Can Dance has been officially cancelled.

Here’s what Bell Media’s vice-president of communications Scott Henderson had to say about it:

“I can confirm that So You Think You Can Dance Canada has not been renewed for a fifth season.”

And here’s a statement that Bell Media released shortly thereafter:

“The producers of So You Think You Can Dance Canada created four seasons of groundbreaking, high-quality television, delivering on a creative level everything you could ask for as broadcaster, and ending on a creative high note.”

“After four seasons and 92 episodes, CTV has decided to pursue other program strategies. This decision was made after careful consideration, including viewership and economic factors. We remain extremely proud of the legacy of So You Think You Can Dance Canada, including raising the profile of dance in this country.”

Between this cancellation and the loss of Canadian Idol back in ’08, our neighbors to the north have NOT been having phenomenal long-term luck with their reality shows over the past few years!

Ah well! Hopefully some new shows will come out soon to fill the void for all those hardcore dance fans in Canada!
