Don’t touch her narrative!
Some of Solange Knowles’ fans have taken her lengthy breakup announcement and spun it into a false story involving her cheating on her soon-to-be ex husband Alan Ferguson — and the singer is, unsurprisingly, not here for it.
As we reported, Beyoncé’s little sister took to social media on Friday to reveal she and the music video director were calling it quits after five years of marriage. She wrote in an Instagram post:
“The past 2 years have brought me more physical and spiritual transition and evolution than ever before. My body left me with no choice but to listen and be still. Within that stillness I begin my journey in confronting my worst enemy, fear.”
But soon, Solange was confronted by her second worst enemy: fans trying to Da Vinci Code her message for (nonexistent) subtextual clues!

This effort led to a handful of readers interpreting her words “my body left me with no choice” as a confession to cheating. One fan chirped:
“‘My body left me with no choice’ Solange just raised the excuse bar high for cheating”
And so on and so forth.
The 33-year-old eventually caught wind of this fan theory and quickly shut it down, writing on Twitter:
“Yo, John [Bogaard] is my former co-manager y’all gotta chill. I’m not about to be silenced into letting complete lies narrate my life. To take my words ‘my body left me with no choice but to listen and be still’ after speaking about my health journey…which has already been painful enough and turn [it] into an interpretation of unfaithfulness is just…wow.”
In a followup tweet, Solange took the high road while doubling down on her defense. She wrote:
“I hate to even give this energy, but I will not let something so untrue follow me when I’ve tried to lead my life in truth. I hope y’all spread this with the same conviction and energy that [you] did that false narrative. Much love.”
We can only hope her fans follow through, because the star was adamant about taking control of her own story in her initial announcement.
She wrote at the time:
“11 years ago I met a phenomenal man who changed every existence of my life. Early this year we separated and parted ways, (and tho it ain’t nan no body business ) I find it necessary to protect the sacredness of my personal truth and to live in it fully just as I have before and will continue to do. It is unfair to not have power of your own story as you shape and mould and rewrite it yourself.”
Sometimes, a few rewrites are necessary!
