On Sunday, rapper Soulja Boy made a daring claim on his Twitter page that was soon re-tweet by his legions of fans. According to him, Willow Smith’s hit song, Whip My Hair, which has catapulted into the pop charts, was actually all his doing. According to him, he wrote the song. On his Twitter page, he wrote:
“YES ITS TRUE I WROTE “WHIP MY HAIR” FOR WILLOW SMITH. THATS WHY SHE SAYS HOP OUT THE BED TURN MY SWAG ON. WE GETTING $$$ 2011 NO GAMES (sic).”
Now, here’s why this story is interesting. As far as we know, Ronald Jackson and Janae Rockwell are listed as the songwriting team behind the track, not Soulja Boy. So why would he make such a claim to fame?
Because he might just cash in on the song, even if he didn’t play any part in writing it. As we hear it, the rapper trademarked the phrase, “turn my swag on,” after the song became a hit. This means that the song’s producers would have had to compensate Soulja Boy for using it in Willow’s song.
So maybe then he is getting $$$ in 2011, but not to the delight of anyone, but him.
