Southern Charm Star Kathryn Dennis Apologizes For Sending Monkey Emoji To Black Radio Host

Kathryn Dennis apologizes for her unfortuante direct message drama...

Kathryn Calhoun Dennis is apologizing this week after a few social media messages got out of hand!

The Southern Charm star officially apologized on Monday afternoon, hours after taking some serious (and well-deserved) heat on social media for something she’d posted in response to a woman discussing the coronavirus pandemic, and the quarantine’s effects on people in the Palmetto State.

It all started over the weekend, when Dennis jumped into the DMs of a podcaster named Tamika Gadsden, and crudely called out the non-celebrity for her strong stance on not wanting businesses to open up quite yet amid the pandemic. The entire affair came about after a Charleston, South Carolina hair salon owner held a rally in favor of President Donald Trump and re-opening the country despite the spread of the pandemic.

The 28-year-old Charleston resident was swiftly put on blast by Gadsden after their contentious conversation, as the podcaster and social media personality shared a disturbing look into the pair’s direct messages. As you can see (below), the reality TV star didn’t behave herself so well in the DMs:

Yikes!!!

Calling someone an “L 7 weenie” probably isn’t such a great idea on its own, but what’s up with the monkey emoji, Kathryn?! To a black person? That’s REALLY uncalled for! Come on, girl!!!

Thankfully, hours later on Monday afternoon, after being given time to think about her actions, Dennis walked things back and formally apologized in a series of tweets. Writing to her more than 200,000 followers on Twitter, the reality TV star repented for her bad behavior, saying (below):

“I want to acknowledge that using a monkey emoji in my text was offensive, and from the bottom of my heart I sincerely apologize to anyone and everyone I hurt. Although the context was not my intention, there are no ‘if ands or buts’ that excuse me … I did not give it thought, and it was and is wrong. I know I am not that person. I know and will do better”

Here’s hoping that’s actually the case!

The seemingly endless coronavirus pandemic and its self-isolation and quarantine challenges have us all feeling a little chippy, so we get it that people are frustrated and want businesses to re-open. But, like, let’s all take a deep breath and come at this controversy with a clear mind, rather than a slew of angry direct messages. Lives over dye jobs!
