The Force woke up and kicked some serious box office ass!
We weren’t surprised when we heard that Star Wars: The Force Awakens was obliterating the box office its opening weekend!
But as the official numbers come, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the “bigger than big” numbers were larger than expected, saying the final global number for the opening weekend “will be in the neighborhood of $528 million.”
This means Star Wars will officially become the No. 1 worldwide box office opening of all time, taking the spot from Jurassic World — which scored $524.9 million its opening weekend in June!
But the numbers will only get higher, because the film doesn’t even open in China until next month — which contributed $100 mil to Jurassic World‘s earnings!
