The coffee giant has teamed up with some top designers to create one-of-a-kind tees.
The last three winners of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award – Alexander Wang, Sophie Theallet, and Billy Reid — will be creating t-shirts inspired by the coffee brand to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
Reid reveals:
“I remember my first Starbucks experience. I was on a business trip, traveling to Seattle, back in 1988 or ’89. I remember walking in this place to get a cup of coffee—I was like, this is the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had! This is one of these opportunities you just never expect to have.”
Theallet added:
“I think, my god, there are Starbucks all over the world now! It’s something incredible. So for this tee shirt, I made a map. I was inspired by the global community, and all the connections involved around a cup of Starbucks coffee.”
With Wang adding:
“We took the coffee and did a coffee spill, and it led to this abstract rendition of the logo. There’s a sense of humor and it’s very lighthearted.”
As for the designs, Reid created tees for men and women with a vintage feel, while Wang created a unisex shirt resembling spilled coffee. As for Theallet, she created only a woman’s tee featuring a map.
The shirts retail for $85 and you can pick them up at select Nordstrom stores or on StarbucksStore.com.
