You’ll be happy to know that we DON’T mean that someone is going to just look up Starbucks on Google! Instead, the coffee shop chain is about to get a HUGE tech makeover, as they’re all switching to Google internet instead of the slowest AT&T wifi they could offer!
We’re talking a 10x boost in speed!
Seriously, that AT&T stuff they’ve had for a long time is barely even worth connecting to! Google had the following to say about it:
Coffee shop + Internet—it’s a pairing that many of us have come to rely on. WiFi access makes work time, downtime, travel time and lots of in-between times more enjoyable and productive. That’s why we’re teaming up with Starbucks to bring faster, free WiFi connections to all 7,000 company-operated Starbucks stores in the United States over the next 18 months. When your local Starbucks WiFi network goes Google, you’ll be able to surf the web at speeds up to 10x faster than before. If you’re in a Google Fiber city, we’re hoping to get you a connection that’s up to 100x faster.
It’s such a bummer that Google Fiber isn’t everywhere, because it’s pretty much something that everyone needs! It’s especially great for the customer, because it’s providing a MUCH needed speed/price competition for major ISPs that think they can gouge the world while passing out slow connections — because nobody is standing up to them!
100x faster in the coffee shop OR at home would be extremely welcomed!!
You’ll start seeing changes in your connection come August, but it’ll take a while to switch over all 7,000 stores!
The bad part about this is that we’ll NEVER find a seat now, what with all the wanna-be screenwriters surfing Facebook instead of working/drinking coffee! LOLz!
