Is Stephen Colbert going to drop the act?
The Colbert Report host rarely breaks character from his wacky right-wing pundit, but he says there is someone he is willing to give up the public persona for- his sister!
Elizabeth Colbert Busch is running for South Carolina’s empty seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, and Stephen considers that more important than his carefully constructed joke. He says:
“She’s my sister, and I’m willing to, you know, break the jewel of my own creation to try to do something for her.
I’m not worried what it would do to me or my show to try to help her as myself, not as my character.”
We sure hope he doesn’t mean he’ll give up the show entirely! As long as he stays true to his truthiness while on the air, what’s the harm?
Stephen says some think it will hurt his persona, but he has a message for them. He says:
“If people think that’s not the right thing for me to do, I don’t care. It’s my sister and I’m willing to help her.”
Well, we certainly understand that family comes first. We just hope he doesn’t go back to pronouncing those T’s!
