As sad as we are to see him go, hellz to the yes!
In light of Steve Jobs‘ unexpected resignation as the CEO of Apple, his successor has been announced as Tim Cook, a chief operating officer, who has apparently been groomed for the position in case of something like this happening – and he also happens to be gay, and now, according to reports, “by far, the most powerful openly gay executive in tech.”
Genentech chairman Art Levinson says in a statement:
“The board has complete confidence that Tim is the right person to be our next CEO. Tim’s 13 years of service to Apple have been marked by outstanding performance, and he has demonstrated remarkable talent and sound judgment in everything he does.”
And as Out Magazine wrote, when they named Cook the number one “Power 50” a few months ago:
“While it is Jobs├óΓé¼Γäós prescience that has kept the Cupertino, Calif., company at the cutting edge of technology, it├óΓé¼Γäós Cook who made sure Apple could deliver as demand rocketed. Leader-in-waiting? Most definitely.”
Ah-mazing!
And it certainly sounds as though he’s more than capable of taking over the role that we’re so sad to see Jobs leave!
We can’t wait to see what kind of direction and perspective he brings to Apple!
Congratulations!
