This is an unfortunate conclusion!
A study recently found that there is a link between the amount of time a mother works and the weight of her children.
Over the last 35 years, the percentage of working US mothers has soared from 50% to 70%. During this time, the childhood obesity rate has tripled to 17%. A new study suggest a link between the two patterns.
The study estimates that for each additional five-month period a mother is employed, her children of average height gains an extra pound over normal growth.
Obviously, it’s not that the mothers are actively causing their kids to gain weight, but families in which both parents work usually have a tougher time putting healthy meals on the table and many times resort to going out to eat or eating frozen dinners.
“It is not the mother’s employment, but the environment,” says the lead author of the study,
If you are a working mother, don’t feel you need to stop working! Just be aware of this and make an extra effort to provide healthy and fresh, healthy meals for your kids!
