Despite the hype surrounding the Super Bowl this year, viewers just didn’t tune in for the big game on Sunday night.

According to the preliminary Nielsen Media Research, ratings show that the Super Bowl’s audience was down from last year’s high. Though the ratings this year were about even with the 2006 and 2007 games.

This year’s game received a 42.1 rating and 65 share in the measurement of the nation’s top cities according to Nielsen. Last year’s rating was at 44.7. Basically, each rating point is said to represent 1,145,000 households.

Somehow, we doubt the current system is very accurate as to how many people are watching the game.

How can they accurately measure how many people are watching the game when lots of folks gather together to watch it in groups????

The total viewership estimate is said to be estimated at around 90 million.
