'Survivor' Alum Silas Gaither Arrested On Rape & Assault Charges; Alleged Victim Says They Met Through Bible Study!

Survivor alum Silas Gaither arrested on rape charges

The Shelby County grand jury has spoken.

A former Survivor contestant has been indicted on rape and aggravated assault charges over an alleged incident that apparently took place in Memphis, Tennessee in May 2018.

According to reports, Silas Gaither (above) was indicted November 13, and a warrant for his arrest was issued a week later. The Germantown, TN native was taken into custody on November 25 and posted $50,000 bond the same day.

Officials have not revealed any details about the case, but the alleged victim told local news station WREG that she met the 41-year-old reality star through a church Bible study in May 2018.

She described the alleged rape as “brutal” and “very violent,” telling the outlet:

“I was definitely preyed upon.”

In the year and a half it took the District Attorney to bring charges, the alleged victim said she met several other women with similar stories.

She claimed:

“He attacks when you’re least expecting it. He does that with all the women.”

WREG reports that police in Germantown, Collierville, and Clearwater, Florida all opened separate investigations into Gaither. The Germantown and Collierville stations have both closed their cases, but the status of the Florida case is unclear.

Gaither is due back in court in January. He appeared on Season 3 of the hit reality competition series, but was voted off at the end of the 6th episode.

The series, which is currently in the middle of its 39th season, is no stranger to controversy. As we reported, the show got heat after contestants Missy Byrd and Elizabeth Beisel admitted to exaggerating claims that they experienced “inappropriate touching” from male contestant Dan Spilo to get him voted off the island.

After receiving waves of backlash, Byrd and Beisel took to social media to apologize for their “unjust” gameplay, and issue a personal apology to contestant Kellee Kim, who was the first to share her very real concerns about Spilo’s apparent hands-on behavior.

Byrd, a former college basketball star at the United States Air Force Academy, shared on Twitter:

“Due to the nature of Survivor, I was viewing the game through a small lens with a limited scope. I did not have all the information on the subject and I made a game move that was unjust.”

Shortly after, Beisel — a former competitive swimmer who represented the United States three times at the Olympics — wrote on her account:

“After watching the episode, my eyes were opened to a completely different truth, and I received an abundance of information that I was entirely unaware of while playing the game. As a player, I am limited to my own experiences and knowing what I know now, my decisions would have been very different. After watching the episode, I am deeply ashamed with my actions and I apologize — they do not reflect my character and who I am in my day to day life.”
