Targeting Pearl Jam

You know, selling out isn’t very grunge.

However, it’s rough times for everyone!

Pearl Jam is planning on recording a Target commercial in promotion of their new album – due out some time this year.

The reasoning stems from the fact that the legendary band intends to released their newest album independently, without any label backing whatsoever. Therefore, they need to distribute to multiple partners.

And Target is cool with that!

Kelly Curtis, manager of Pearl Jam since day one, explains: “Target ended up allowing us to have other partners. We’ll be able to take care of all levels of the Pearl Jam fan…We wish we could tell the whole story right now, but all the deals aren’t done. Target was cool enough to realize that little independent record stores are not their competition.”

Guess it is better than going back to Sony with your tail between you legs. But this better be one hell of an album.
