Taylor Swift Fans SLAM Charli XCX After She Calls Them '5-Year-Olds'!

There’s nothing more dangerous in 2019 than pissing off Taylor Swift fans, but Charli XCX didn’t seem to mind. Probably because she thinks they’re all young children!

The 1999 singer drew the ire of Swifties Twitter-wide on Tuesday after she seemingly dissed them — and the entire Reputation tour — in a new interview with Pitchfork.

In case you forgot, Tay graciously invited Charli and Camila Cabello to open for her on the sold-out 2018 tour, which comprised of 53 dates in North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan and went on to break the record for being the highest-grossing U.S. tour ever.

At the time, the British singer seemed very excited about the opportunity. She tweeted in March 2018:

“I AM SO EXCITED THANK U TAYLOR FOR HAVING ME.”

But it appears Charli’s excitement was a thing of the past.

The 27-year-old said in her cover story for the mag:

“I’m really grateful that [Taylor] asked me on that tour. But as an artist, it kind of felt like I was getting up on stage and waving to 5-year-olds.”

Oh no. Gurl, are you looking for trouble!? Say whatever you want, sure, but for the love of Lorde… don’t come for the Swifties!

Well, she did, unfortunately, and plenty of them felt personally attacked by the star’s remark. Numerous fans were out for blood, tweeting angry replies like:

Yikes!

Charli issued a response hours later, insisting “absolutely no shade” was directed at any Swifties — or Taylor — in her interview.

Sharing some more context about her remarks, she tweeted:

So, it sounds like Charli was just contrasting her typical 18+ crowd to Taylor’s relatively innocent audience. Makes sense — but will Swifties buy it?

Either way, it seems the performer is done opening for other artists. She told Pitchfork:

“I’ve done so much of it, and it really cemented my status as this underdog character, which I like now. But I need to just own my own f**king s**t finally.”

Calling the most aggressive and powerful musical fandom a bunch of children is a start, we guess.

Oddly enough, Charli had nothing but kind words for T.Swift’s fans when the tour wrapped up in November. She wrote on Instagram at the time:

“OMG TOUR IS OVER!!!! IF U SAW ME LIVE THIS YEAR COMMENT THE NAME OF THE CITY U SAW ME PERFORM IN BELOW!!! I wanna reminisce!!!!! I feel happy and sad all at once. Happy that I got to be a part of such a huge tour with so many great people (example – @taylorswift @camila_cabello @broodsmusic), happy that I got to perform my songs in such huge rooms to so many new people, happy that a lot of those people actually knew those songs (LOL!) and happy that I got to throw my own parties along the way for the hardcore angels who like to rave until 5am once everyone else has gone to bed hehe. Sad because… well it’s all over now!!!”

Charli’s far from “over,” though, despite what some Swifties may claim. The singer recently announced her self-titled third studio album will be released on September 13.

We wonder how many five-year-olds will listen to it.
