Taylor Swift is certainly feeling the love in the first still of her Lover music video!
An image from the yet to be released vid found its way to the interwebs this week, showing the pop superstar in the arms of what appears to be her on-screen love interest.
As you can see (above), her titular Lover is not her real life boyfriend, Joe Alwyn: it’s a very handsome man… who happens to be black!
That’s right. Tay seems to be enjoying an *interracial romance* in the new vid! (Oooh. Ahhh.) If it were any other artist, we wouldn’t think twice about it. But we’re talking about T.Swift here, so this casting needs to be discussed.

Surely, many will applaud the singer for featuring an interracial romance in her latest video. After all, isn’t it progressive AF? Isn’t it so very 2019? Isn’t it nice how she’s doing her best to make up for all those years of silence?
That’s what Tay seemingly wants fans to think. We mean, she currently has the same still as a screensaver for the countdown of her video’s release on YouTube!

But, again, we’re talking about T.Swift — which means the move is ripe for all kinds of backlash. From all sides!
We’re not just talking about the inevitable backlash from dumb racists who don’t want to see this pairing. The video is already getting heat from critics accusing the Grammy-winner of pandering to her liberal fans!
Remember, Tay faced similar backlash earlier this summer following the release of her LGBT-astic You Need To Calm Down music video, which featured cameos from the biggest power gays in the entertainment industry (and Ryan Reynolds).
While the YNTCD video was applauded by many for celebrating the LGBT community, some couldn’t help but feel it was a bit too calculated, seeing as it was released during Pride Month.
Now, history is repeating itself… kind of.

Of course, it’s not Black History Month, so Tay having her very first black music video boyfriend doesn’t feel quite as contrived as the YNTCD case.
But, still, the move has caused some raised eyebrows. As one fan on Twitter put it:

Hmmm…
Do U agree, Perezcious readers? Does this casting move seem calculated, or should we even bat an eye over it? OR, even if it is calculated, should we appreciate that it’s calculated with good intentions? Share your opinions in the comments and watch the full video (below)!
