Ted Cruz now has an official opponent in the 2018 race for his Texas Senate seat. And he already has a strategy — going after Representative Beto O’Rourke‘s policies record nickname.
In his new political ad, a country jingle teases “Liberal Robert wanted to fit in, so he changed his name to Beto and hid it with a grin.”
So Robert goes by Beto. So what? “Ted” Cruz’s real name is Rafael.

And if he doesn’t want his Republican supporters to remember he’s the son of an immigrant, nicknames probably aren’t the best battlefield for him.
Of course, he can’t be too proud of his Cuban heritage. Not when he’s against a path to citizenship for DREAMers, citizenship for all children born in the U.S., and basically ANY immigration reform.
As for how Beto reacted, he’d prefer to keep things serious:
