This is too much.
A 15-year-old Kentucky teenager was hospitalized with 2nd degree burns after he lit himself on fire because of some Youtube videos other teens posted.
What kind of videos would prompt a teen to do such a thing?
Well, they are called Fire Challenge videos, and it appears to be a sort of online trend. We’d like to think most teenagers would have the good sense NOT to participate in such a dumb act, but hey, what do we know?
The unnamed hospitalized teenager admits himself that he didn’t know what he was thinking when he poured rubbing alcohol on his chest and lit it this past Friday. Here’s what he said happened:
“I just poured alcohol on it, and lit it, and it just automatically went and burst”
And the pain did NOT feel good! He said:
“Unbearable, yea, basically. Literally after it got put out it was already blistering, it├óΓé¼Γäós just hard.”
When asked what he expected to happen by the stunt he saw from videos online, he admitted he never thought about the consequences. He said:
“Just watching it and never seeing what ended and just being childish. I don’t know, I wasn’t thinking really.”
Awful!
The Lexington Fire Department Captain Chris Harrod doesn’t blame this fifteen-year-old though, he thinks the problem is these kids are watching the videos and then aren’t seeing what happens afterwards. He said:
“What they don’t show at the end of the videos is the consequences of doing this, getting second and third degree burns.”
Ugh! It’s painful just to think about!
We understand that teens can be attracted to fire, but they should really save it for the chemistry classes and the beakers – not their body parts!
Keeping your body fire-free is the way to be!
