Slice up a lime, grab your salt, and get ready to enjoy some smooth tequila because it’s good for you!
Our old bff Science has finally figured out that the natural sugars in agave plants, aka agavins, help protect against type 2 diabetes, along with diet-induced obesity!
And what do we make from the blue agave plant? TEQUILA!
In tests done with mice — aww, sadsies! — one group was given plain water, and others were given various sweeteners. The mice who ingested agavins reduced their food intake, weight, and blood glucose levels! These results were similar to the mice who only drank water.
So what are agavins?! Well, they act like dietary fibers and keep blood sugar the same — which is why they├óΓé¼Γäóre a good sweetener!
The bad news is that agavins aren’t readily available, and they’re not super sweet like sugar. Whomp whomp.
The good news is that they’re in tequila, so Happy Hour to you!
