This makes us ill!
Rev. John M. Fiala was arrested and thrown in jail on Tuesday after he was charged with one count of criminal solicitation to commit capital murder and two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
The most disturbing part was that Fiala was out on bond from sexual assault charges involving the boy, who is now 18, when he offered an undercover agent with the Texas Department of Public Safety $5,000 to kill the teen.
OMG!
“This guy,” said Edwards County Sheriff Don Letsinger, “is an evil man.”
According to the teen’s lawyer, Tom Rhodes, he met Fiala. The priest started “grooming him,” and buying him gifts including a computer and a car. When the boy was 16, Fiala “gained access to him and began to sexually abuse him once or twice a month, including on church grounds,” under the guise of providing private catechism lessons.
Not only did the priest threatened to kill the boy if he told anyone, but texted them to him everyday. Fiala also threatened to kill himself claiming they would “go to heaven together.” He also raped the boy at gunpoint.
When Fiala was convicted, he was removed from active ministry in October 2008, but he still got out of jail and tried to flee to Kansas. He was caught after a witness heard that he was plotting to murder the young man and went to police.
“He’s still very afraid, but he is hoping that this time Fiala will stay behind bars,” Rhodes said of his client.
Letsinger added:
“I think he’s cooked his goose now. We know that pedophiles sometimes threaten their victims to keep them quiet. But this is kind of an older victim, and you wonder sometimes why they wouldn’t come forward. … I can see now the evil in this guy is pretty bad.”
Lock him up and throw away the key!
