Pregnant Teyana Taylor Reveals Erykah Badu Will Deliver Baby No. 2 With Husband Iman Shumpert

Teyana Taylor reveals singer Erykah Badu will be her midwife for baby number 2 with husband Iman Shumpert.

Teyana Taylor is looking forward to the healing energy and expertise of her musical peer and friend Erykah Badu for an incredibly special moment in her life!

For those who might’ve missed it, the 29-year-old singer-songwriter shared earlier this month that she is expecting her second child with husband Iman Shumpert. While appearing on Nick Cannon‘s Power 106 radio show on Wednesday, she revealed the Love Of My Life artist is actually going to be delivering her baby!

Taylor and the NBA basketball player welcomed their daughter Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr., 5, at home their bathroom at home back in 2015. When Cannon inquired if her birth plan was going to be the same this time around, the singer dropped the big news that Badu is going to be her midwife:

“You know what’s crazy, even though the Junie story is crazy, it kind of put me in a comfort zone where I don’t know if I want to go to the hospital for this next baby. I’m going to make sure it’s not on the toilet or the bathroom floor. I’m considering a home-birth, and I’m actually doing it with Erykah [Badu].”

She continued gushing over her non-traditional birthing plan involving Erykah, even joking that the artist would “sing her verse” from their recent collaboration, Lowkey, to “calm my nerves” during the delivery.

This honestly sounds like such a great idea! It would also be cute if they played a snippet of her track Wake Up Love, which she used the visuals for to debut her pregnancy to the world.

Badu is recognized for a long and storied career in the music industry as an R&B singer, actress, and producer. However, some might not be aware she’s been a practicing midwife and doula since 2001 after delivering her 22-year-old son Seven Sirius Benjamin at home and helping a friend through natural childbirth years later.

She told Pitchfork during a 2015 interview:

“I became a doula by default. I had [son] Seven naturally, at home, and a couple of years later I was traveling through Europe, and one of my best friends, Afya… went into labor. I naturally knew what to do, and it was then that I figured out that this was something I can do that makes me so fulfilled.”

How dope! Seriously, though — what can’t this woman do?! We’re glad to hear Teyana is going to be surrounded with plenty of love, support, and capable hands when her bundle of joy arrives.
